Hi Folks,

Quite a while since my last diary up date so lots of gigs to talk about and many miles travelled !

Beginning in September with Forever In Blue Jeans at The Octagon Theatre, Yeovil a treat to be back at this West Country venue and hope to be able to do it all again sometime in the future. A quick trek at the weekend with shows in Falkirk, Fife (Scotland) and Billingham (Tyneside) Great to see our Northern friends, and despite the long journey up and back we had two great BJ shows. The last gig for Sept is a real favourite of ours at The Stables, Milton Keynes. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that this gig will be forever associated with the late Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine as it was they who founded this extra special venue. We had an absolutely amazing night and one that is up there on the “best ever” list !!

On into October now, with BJ at The Leiston Film Theatre being the first in our diary. This gig is unique as the manager Wayne not only manages every aspect of the theatre from booking the shows, marketing them, box office attendant and finally lighting the stage….phew !!! That’s what I call an enterprising man! A real mixture the following  weekend with a couple of Hertfordshire gigs , the first with “Voice Of The Heart- Karen Carpenter” at The Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage and the second with BJ at The Castle,Wellingborough. Thirdly with BJ at Boreham Wood and then to finish on Sunday both shows were “on parade” at Vauxhall Holidays, Great Yarmouth. Vauxhall has to be one of the most successful Holiday Venues that we visit, not only is it h…u….g….e but every time we visit we are part of a great weekend of nostalgic music and every time it’s sold out – no mean feat these days !!. The 18th and 19th saw BJ well and truly “on the road” as we travelled from Newbury to Abergavenny in South Wales followed by a date with Warner’s Holidays at Nidd Hall, Harrogate, Yorkshire. Both amazing nights and both sold out so it was well worth the many hours travelling. I have to mention a gig with a difference on Sunday 27th as Bob and myself along with Andy Saphir on lead guitar and vocals, Derek Thurlby on Steel Guitar, Bob Pierce on Drums and last but never least Chris Finn on Sound played at The Queens Theatre, Hornchurch. It was a special gig rarely seen but having spoken to the manager at The Queens he was looking for a smaller band to play in front of a huge stage set that was “in situ” for 2 weeks. I suggested our band and Thom was delighted to book us and we were delighted to oblige !! It was a real trip down memory lane for Bob and me as we first started our association with them in the 1980’s as a duo and have been visiting there ever since with both BJ closely followed by VOH. We had an amazing gig and thank our BJ cast for all their support on this great evening.

Just a couple of gigs to finish the year off in November the first being at The Prince of Wales Theatre, Cannock with VOH and the last at The Millfield Theatre, Edmonton with BJ. And that, as they say is that for 2013 anyway……but lots more gigs still to come as we move swiftly into 2014……

We couldn’t have had a better start to the New Year than performing at The Lights Theatre, Andover and The Mill At Sonning, both BJ gigs and both absolutely brilliant. The Mill in particular was superb and despite the venue being located right on top of the River Thames, and despite the basement area under water, you know the saying “The show must go on” and go on it did and what a cracker, sold out, brilliant ! A special mention must go to our newest member Paul Leno who did a great job despite fairly hasty rehearsals his professionalism shone through, well done Paul.

I finish this latest update with 2 VOH gigs, the first at The Corn Exchange, Newbury –our local gig and one that always offers us a warm welcome and a great audience to match. Lastly The Courtyard Theatre, Hereford, a near sell out and what a great great gig this was….if I could “bottle” gigs this would be well and truly saved as a “best vintage”…it was superb with a tremendous crowd, the band were excellent…oh and the girl singer wasn’t too bad either !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until the next time, keep on keeping on,

Happy 2014

Carole
